Bard® Dulex Mesh
Bard Dulex mesh is a dual-sided ePTFE mesh designed
for ventral hernia repair. On one side is a micro-porous structure
designed to minimize visceral attachment to the prosthesis. On the
other side is a macro-porous structure designed to promote tissue
growth. This ingrowth side has a pore size of approximately 800 microns,
which is nearly equivalent to polypropylene mesh. Bard Dulex
Mesh has about 35 times more tissue ingrowth capacity then the Gore-Tex®
DualMesh® Corduroy Biomaterial.
Bard Dulex Mesh also features a unique inter-pore structure. Running through these pores are structures called fibrils. These fibrils act like support beams and allow tissue to grow in and around them.
Finally, Bard Dulex Mesh is an overall stronger
material than the Gore-Tex® DualMesh® Corduroy Biomaterial.
In a laboratory test, the Dulex Mesh had an average ultimate
strength of 16.2 kg/cm, compared to the Gore-Tex® DualMesh®
Corduroy Biomaterial at 13.7kg/cm.
